NPAN Case Win #1372 - Breaking the Cycle of Workplace Abuse

NPAN-Apr-28-2023-03-27-21-3699-AM

How NPAN Helped Our Nurse Member Regain Control

Picture this - you wake up every morning, dreading the thought of going to work. You know that you will be met with a toxic work environment where you will be belittled and harassed.

This was the sad reality for one nurse who had significant issues with their line manager, who subjected them to bullying, racism, and harassment on a daily basis.

They had put in multiple complaints to HR about the issue, including formal reports from senior management who had witnessed and experienced the bullying towards them.

Despite this, the bullying continued, and they felt powerless to stop it.
It was a miserable situation, one that no healthcare worker should have to endure.

Over 90% of frontline healthcare professionals report seeing aggression of some form in the workplace. This can sometimes be from patients, but also often takes the form of bullying or harassment. That is a tragically high statistic.

Why don’t things improve? Because the problems start with a toxic workplace environment where speaking out is punished and intimidating behaviour is ignored (or worse, encouraged). Other unions are often too friendly with management to really listen to members experiencing these difficult problems. You’ll never find that with the NPAN.

Fortunately, NPAN was there to stand up for our member, and fight for their safety.
One of our expert case managers was assigned to the case and investigated the extent of the abuse, before assisting them with an internal grievance.

Thanks to our intervention, the member was provided with a new line manager, and the previous line manager was required to work from home to ensure their safety and well-being.

Our compassionate case manager not only helped them with the practical aspects of their case but also provided emotional support and a listening ear during this difficult time.

For this member, the NPAN was a friendly light in a bleak situation. The support they received helped them regain their confidence and feel safe at work again.

How is the NPAN so effective in defending members during workplace issues and disputes? Our experienced and professional case managers use our unique RED case resolution system.

Why is the NPAN different? We believe that real change in healthcare STARTS with empowering frontline nurses, not bureaucrats.
