A brief look at pay increases across the aged care sector heading into the new financial year.

If you've noticed that your pay has only increased by a little bit after July 1st, you're not alone. There have been recent wage increases across the Aged Care Sector that may have left some employees wondering about the modest bump in their salaries.

For some workers in the Aged Care Sector, the wage increase appeared to be somewhat underwhelming. If you're wondering why your pay only increased by a small margin after July 1st, fear not, as we delve into the intricacies of the wage hike to shed light on what exactly transpired.

On June 30th 2023, a significant 15% pay rise was issued to the Aged Care Sector. This increase was a result of ongoing efforts to recognise and address the valuable contributions of aged care workers. With an ageing population and increased demand for aged care services, the sector has been under scrutiny for its remuneration practices.

The 15% pay rise was a welcome development for many aged care workers who had long been advocating for fairer wages and better working conditions. However, this increase was just the beginning of a series of positive changes for the sector.

On July 1st 2023, the Australian government implemented an across-the-board national minimum wage increase of 5.75% for all awards. This move aimed to address the rising cost of living, inflation, and to improve the overall standard of living for workers across various industries.

While the national minimum wage increase was not specific to the aged care sector, it still had a positive impact on the pay checks of many workers, including those in aged care. This increase provided a boost to the base pay rates of employees across the country, contributing to a better financial situation for many.
